Made $5 for 9th place in a private freeroll on Trident Poker that was hosted by the Backroom Poker League.

I was the chip leader for a long time but then I made a loose call in the BB holding AJ vs the SB who had JJ and went all-in. I thought he was trying to steal it and I was wrong. From there it was all downhill until the final hand:

I knew the guy had nothing. He had been raising with nothing a few times earlier and I sensed a pattern. But he got lucky, I guess. Hey, $5 is still $5 more than I had before the game, right?

I hate Prima players. Check out this awful bad beat. How could this guy even call the first raise let alone the second one?

I took my CD Poker winnings and went to lose them at a no-limit table. I had an awesome bluff during one of the hands:

I won a $1 SNG on CD Poker. They have a cool trophy picture:

Friday, February 17, 2006

Tropical Poker is a new site that is in the stages of testing out their software. They offer 24/7 single table SNG and an MTT every 2 hours approximately. These are funny games since the blind structure pretty much has you going all-in sometime during the first round. Since you're only playing for a prize pool of a single dollar it doesn't hurt to just do it. I won three in a row in under 5 minutes this way, granted, it was a whopping $1.50, but still:

So what can you do with $2.50 on PokerRoom? Turn it into $180. I originally made a $10 deposit in order to play the Shark Cage match and get a Centurion ticket. But I didn't make any money on those and after trying the Centurion qualifiers I ended up with $2.50 left in the account. And then they pulled the Centurion qualifiers, so there was nothing left for me to do.

I took my money to a .25 Pot-Limit Hold'em table and played a couple of aggressive hands to more than double up twice to over $11. Now I could go play a real tournament. I saw that a $5 rebuy was starting and even though I am not a big fan of the rebuy I decided to give it a shot knowing I can only rebuy once.

I lost a key all-in hand with QQ to AA and was left with only 40 chips. I put in my rebuy and got all the way down to 155 chips. From there it was only uphill. I eventually finished in 5th place (once again my QQ ran into KK - and after analyzing the hand I can truly say I would have been in trouble no matter what I did. So $2.50 turns into $180. Not bad for a few hours work. Check out the screenshot:

BTW,PokerRoom does not update the prize pool for rebuys and add-ons, which totally sucks. When I looked at the tournament info page the prize pool was pretty much half what it ended up being.

Loon Cash League Win

Played with the PokerLoons last night and took first place in the cash league on Trident Poker. It's a $5 buy in and paid top 3 places. With only 8 players that came out to a first place prize of $20. However, at the end of the month they add up all the league points and give out more cash.

I had to battle it out with bbjmc1 who is a terrific player. Here are the final standings:

Bet Royal

Took my free $11 from Bet Royal Poker and turned them into $25. I started out playing a $5+.50 freezeout which I played very loose and aggressive and was out of rather quickly. So with the extra $5.50 in my account I decided to try a 10 seat SNG.

I quickly established myself as the ultra-tight player at the table and probably didn't play a single hand during the first 3 orbits. I then proceeded to play very aggressive and only showed two hands until I got heads up. The first hand was AA under the gun which knocked out the player to my left who had pocket 9's. I made a minimum raise UTG and got called. With a flop of 726 rainbow I bet 3xBB and the guy went over the top all-in with what he thought was an overpair. Just to find me with rockets.

The second hand I showed was a 64 off suit when I was in the BB. Just me and the SB playing for the un-raised pot. Flop came 529 rainbow. SB put in a small enough bet for me to call my gutshot straight draw. Turn was an 8 and now I had a double gutshot straight draw. SB just checked and so did I. River was a 7 giving me the low straight. Only two hands could beat me at this point - J-10 and 10-6. SB quickly went all in which was an obvious over-bet. I figured he got two pair or something like that. So I called and found out he had been slow playing a set of 5's. I especially liked the free card on the River.

I then quickly proceeded to heads-up with another tight player. Took advantage of that and got lucky on the final hand. My K3 made a straight on the river against his pocket A's which he slow played after hitting his set on the flop. To which I say never slow play A's or you will get sucked out on.

Home game beat - ouch

Well we had a really great poker night here last night and the winners played some seriously good poker. I won the second game while playing a total of four hands before going heads up.

One hand that comes to mind as a terrible bad beat is how JJ in the short stack went all in and Q9 suited called. Flop was 9J9 giving short stack the boat and the caller either two running Q's or another 9, which showed up on the river. Ouch!

We hooked up the HoldemPoker Tournament Director's Clock to the new 42" plasma and that was awesome. The clock is free to download, so go to HoldemPoker and get it.
