Not sure why, but walking around my neighborhood lately I seem to see a lot of mailboxes that have been bumped into or outright ran over. I mean, how drunk can someone be to just run right into a giant white pole on a residential street? Idiots!
The problem with residential mailboxes, especially in a subdivision like ours, is that they all have to look the same. And once the neighborhood is built, it's not going to be easy to find the exact replica of what is now laying on your front lawn in a pile of splinters and crushed metal. You can't just march into home Depot and expect to find one like it. And it's not just the post you need to find, it's also an identical box. So it's a pain in the ass, is all I'm sayin'.
And if we're on the subject - one of my neighbors has a magnetic mailbox cover with his favorite college team logo on it. I thought that was kind of cute. I love when people decide to personalize their mailboxes. So I called our HOA to make sure that he wasn't violating any codes and they sent him a warning. I'm very neighborly like that.
